Invest.com sale completes for $1,015,000

September 30, 2008 by Scott · Leave a Comment

The purchase of the domain name Invest.com which was bought in December last year has finally been completed through Sedo’s Great Domains. Domain name sales continue to buck the economic downturn with regular sales in the 5 and 6 figure region for .com domains while .co.uk domains have also risen in popularity and end user sales.

Earlier this year phones.co.uk sold for £175,000 after being bought for only £49,500 8 months prior, are domain names the new investment that can take over from property? They certainly have their merit with zero maintenance and low upkeep typically costing around £3.50 per year to keep registered.

Previous UK domains sales

  • Cruises.co.uk £560,000
  • Phones.co.uk £175,000
  • Recycle.co.uk £150,000
  • Sport.co.uk £135,000
  • Ink.co.uk £130,425
  • Mobile.co.uk £120,000
  • Fly.co.uk £87,500

MI6 hit hard times as their gadgets sell on Ebay

September 30, 2008 by Scott · Leave a Comment

MI6 are investigating how one of their digital cameras was sold on Ebay for a rather paltry £17.

It’s memory had names of Al-Qaeda members along with details of the MI6 supercomputer and images of rocket launchers and missiles.

A 28-year-old man from Hertfordshire bought the Nixon Cool Pix camera for £17 on the online auction website before going on holiday to the US.

When the new owner, a delivery driver from Hemel Hempstead, went to download his holiday pictures he found photos of terror suspects, along with their names, fingerprints and images of launchers and missiles.

“We can confirm we seized a camera after a member of the public reported it,” said Hertfordshire Police in a statement after the camera was handed into Hemel Hempstead police station.

“Intelligence services are investigating,” the statement added.

The incident is the latest in a series of embarrassing data losses to affect the intelligence services and the Government.

The new JS1-Series from VAIO

September 30, 2008 by Scott · Leave a Comment

The VAIO JS1-Series all-in-one PC seems to offer buyers the impossible: it has a large, high-resolution screen, yet it takes up less desk space than most notebooks. It achieves this apparent contradiction by virtue of its sleek and stylish design. The compact keyboard can be slotted underneath the main unit when not in use, leaving only a modest footprint on the desk. Even when the keyboard is out, the JS1-Series takes up remarkably little room.

Despite its modest space requirements, the JS1’s main unit incorporates a generously sized 20.1-inch screen complete with multiple lamp technology for exceptional brightness. The display runs at 1680 x 1050 resolution, delivering a huge Windows workspace as well as an imposing widescreen presence when a movie is playing.

All this makes the VAIO JS1 an excellent choice for anyone wanting a rather special home PC. It looks good in almost any room, takes up surprisingly little space and offers an adventurous design a long way away from the standard desktop box. Internally there’s raw power for audio-visual applications thanks to the Intel Core™ 2 Duo processor, plus a performance-enhancing 3GB of memory and a roomy 500GB hard disk providing plenty of space for music, pictures and video.
