Hubert Chang and his 30 billion mistake

A video uploaded onto Youtube on December the 1st has been getting some attention recently, Hubert Chang claims in his video to have been the 5th Beatle, or rather the 3rd Google designer.

“After reviewing these tapes some people mught think I am lying, some that I am crazy while some will be upset, others will consider that I am honest, but the tapes have to be made.

Google was designed by Larry, Sergey and me in February 1997…the name of the company and Google’s growing path”

Chang says Larry and Sergey asked him if he wanted his name added to the academic paper which first described the ranking system to be submitted for a conference, Chang declined to instead concentrate on his Ph.D and later called this an unwise move but said after a few years he would contact them. ouch!

In late 2002 Chang initiated contact with Larry & Sergey who never replied directly but through a Google employee, initially seemed promising but then suddently it was off/on, as yet there has been no official response from Google.

If only Chang had GMail in 1997, his then small email quota meant his emails to/from Sergey and Larry re: Google have long since been deleted to save space, bummer.
