Toshiba see SD Cards as the DVD replacement
September 25, 2008 by Scott
Toshiba announced today that they will invest a further $20 million in an MOD system that provide retailers with a digital media delivery system that allows customers to download content. Toshiba feel the demand for media through the internet will lead to retailers selling digital content on SD Cards from shops.
So the modern equivalent of Blockbusters but with SD Cards, or the ability to buy movies with your shopping.
Toshiba will develop dedicated set-top boxes for the service that allows consumers to watch content on TVs, and also develop portable devices that will allow content to be viewed and enjoyed anywhere. Toshiba will also produce and market high capacity SD cards for the system.
Deployment of kiosks and other self-service devices that will enable downloads to SD cards in retail stores will be delivered by NCR Corporation, another investor in MOD Systems
