Apple Media Event – New Macbooks
October 15, 2008 by Joel
Today was apples long awaited event to introduce the new Macbooks. So let’s get right into it. The MacBook announced is now thinner, lighter and made from aluminum. It comes with a stunning LED backlight screen that’s covered in glass, Another long awaited feature is Nvidia Graphics. While the Chip is still integrated apple says performance will improve 5 times! I think that’s pretty good. The Manufacturing process is amazing! The computer is built with a single piece of solid Aluminum, They machine it down and make it just right.
I can only imagine the fit and finish of this computer. Apple really hit the nail on the head with this design, a beautiful glass track pad that now supports multi gesture. The Mini-Dvi was replaced by a Mini Display port which allows the MacBook to drive up to 30” display, Both the pro and MacBook have mini-Display port.To sum it all up for you here it is. LED Display, Nvidia Graphics, Backlight keyboard.
Let’s move on Internals the guts of the machine and find out what this is made of. Well, I already mentioned the Graphics, so on to the Memory. The computer now supports DDR3 Memory clocked at 1066Mhz up from 667. The Processor has a 1066 Mhz bus to support it. The computer will come in Two Aluminum Configurations that includes a 2.0 GHz Version with a 160GB HD and 2GB Ram. The second comes with 2.4 GHz and 250GB HD and 2GB of Ram. Those are 1399 and 1749 CDN. Or 1299 and 1599 US. Now for all you tearing your hair out because of the price, the White version is still offered from last gen.
Apple has also introduced New MacBook Pros (15 inch only). Here’s where I think apple did a nice job but a Half-ass one. What about 17” apple? While the 15” was updated to same look and similar specs to the MacBook the 17” was left Unchanged. The pro now has a 9600m GT up from 8600. Although if you buy the stock low end model you have the same integrated graphics of the MacBook. Really the Low-end one is just a MacBook with firewire and a bigger screen. However once you step it up. The pro includes a faster 2.53Ghz processor and 4GB’s of ram. Overall a nice job on apples part , Beautiful Notebooks and a nice presentation.
