Acer Aspire G7700 Predator Trooper desktop computer

 

Lesser known technology powerhouse Acer seems to have done its homework right when it comes to launching desktop PCs in UK, it’s actually proved right in the design of new predator trooper. It sports a delightful and daring design combining a predator looking body with the JCB, you will either love it or hate it.

Covered in a violent orange plastic body the neatly hinged front panel sits neatly on top of the case and makes it easily accessible in case you need to access the front, it slides down softly when given a push in the right direction. The panel also gives easy access to the USB sockets(4 in number) and the microphone and headphone jacks, although one may expect to fold it down but it is fixed. The back holds 4 USB ports, Firewire audio and button for clearance of Cmos memory.

The Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 processor running at 2.66GHz and Geforce 9800GTX graphics cards linked using Scalable Link Interface (SLI), makes it surprisingly a powerful computer. It scored a whopping 5,668 points in the PCmark Vantage benchmark and 14,249 in 3Dmark06. It scored an average 38fps in Conflict game test.

Acer crafted a monitor specially to match its Predator PC range – the 24” G24 – but it’s not included in the price. At least the peripherals that are included fit the part, such as Logitech’s wired G11 keyboard and G5 gaming mouse. The keyboard includes plenty of programmable macro buttons, while the mouse can be switched between three sensitivity levels.

But on the scorecard the Cyberpower’s Liquid Gamer Infinity, had almost 20,000 points in 3Dmark06 and a slightly higher score in PCmark Vantage, and it is £200 cheaper than the trooper.

The Trooper actually is a very competitive high-end computer with bleeding-edge components and maims the latest games, the price however, seems little high for its worth.
