Long Beach, California-based Epson America announced its next generation of ink jet printers. The Epson Stylus Pro 7900 and Epson Stylus Pro 9900 are both aimed at professionals in the creative and media industry with demanding print quality requirements.
The company claims that these two printing devices are capable of providing “exceptionally fine photographic blends and transitions and highly accurate highlight-to-shadow detail”. This has been made possible through some breakthrough R&D in high-density pigment chemistry that has led to the development of UltraChrome HDR ink technology and a trademarked AccuPhoto HDR screening technology.
The 7900 model can print pages measuring 24 inches, while the 9900 model can accommodate pages measuring 44 inches width. Both roll or cut sheet media can be inserted into these devices. A rotary cutter for roll papers can cut any media type, including canvas and fine art papers.

The printers have an optional provision for in-line spectrophotometer – called the SpectroProofer, developed in partnership with X-Rite – which can be used in commercial proofing applications. The printer head is a ten-channel, high-precision MicroPiezo TFP that can produce resolutions of up to 2,880X1,440 dpi. Switching to black ink (from the black ink cartridge) happens automatically and can also be managed through the front control panel.
The Stylus Pro 7900 is expected to be available for USD 3,995; while the Stylus Pro 9900 has a end-user price tag of USD 5,995. Both the models are targeted to hit the shelves in November 2008.
