LENOVO ThinkPad T400

June 30, 2009 by Scott · Leave a Comment

3Lenovo recently launched a laptop which is slightly heavier than the company’s thinnest and lightest laptop but it aptly priced at several hundred dollars less. The new Think Pad T400s weighs less than 4 pounds but is only a pound heavier than the ThinkPad X301. In addition the T400s is thicker at 0.83 inch when compared with the 3/4 of an inch and this also has 14.1-inch display which is almost an inch larger than the X301’s screen.

The X301 was introduced in August 2008 and entered the market as a competitor for Apple’s MacBook Air when it came to features with the only visible difference in their price. The X301 was priced at $2,599 which was almost $800 more than the Air. But since then both Apple and Lenovo have lowered their prices. The Air now retails at a starting price of $1,499 whereas the X301 went on sale on Lenovo’s Web site at a price of $1,939.

But what Lenovo is aiming to offer with the T400s is a slightly larger thin-and-light laptop than the X301 but at a price of $1,599. Apart from that the T400s has more processing power due to the 2.53-GHz Core 2 Duo processor compared to the 1.4-GHz Core 2 Duo.

The T400s also comes with a choice to the customer when it comes to storage capacity. They can choose from the 128 GB solid-state drive or 250 GB hard drive. The battery consists of six-cells that provides up to six hours of battery life. The laptop is Wi-Fi enabled and offers optional support for wireless carrier’s 3G data networks.

Other features include an Express Card slot along with an option for a DVD burner or Blu ray disc player and this also offers support for up to two monitors. Lenovo has added the fingerprint reader which has the ability to boot the laptop with only a swipe of a finger.

What palm needs for the perfect Pre

June 27, 2009 by Joel · Leave a Comment

preThe Palm pre has been out on the market for a few weeks now and Consumers are aware of the device and it’s capabilities but there’s still a lot missing from the device that is keeping it from It’s full potential. So I present you the list of things that the palm pre must do to unleash it’s full potential.

I’ll start with hardware things that the palm should have had. First off I’m sure you know that the pre has only 8GB of internal storage and not option to expand that via Micro sd card slot. This is quite a big problem while maybe not for all I’m sure that many people will not buy the device for this reason alone. Palm you either need to increase internal storage up to the iPhone standard or keep the 8GB and allow us to put in a Micro SD card.

The device looks very slick and it’s comfortable in the hand but there are somethings that would make it even better. First I’m sure you know by now the keyboard isn’t the greatest so palm either needs to make it larger or apply a different texture. Another thing is the screen, plastic screens aren’t very good they feel somewhat cheap and they can scratch easier than glass, and glass also gives you a sense of luxury.

For the software front the device excels with it’s outstanding operating system that redefines multitasking on mobile devices. Although there are improvements to be made as nothing is perfect. First of all I cannot believe they shipped the device without allowing for a full SDK, I mean they saw what happened when apple did  the same thing a few years ago. It just doesn’t work especially if you now want to compete with the iPhone. These apps are what really make the devices so good. Palm let’s get out an SDK so the developers can do their thing I’m sure many developers are interested.

The last thing is get it out there. Currently only the U.S. Has the smartphone if I’ m not mistaken which is a bit ridiculous I mean common this is almost exactly the iPhone all over again. I know it’s only CDMA networks but it can’t be that much harder to make a GSM one. Hell even us Canadians don’t have it yet and we support CDMA.

Windows 7 Pricing announced

June 26, 2009 by Joel · Leave a Comment

7Microsoft on Wednesday released pricing for it’s new Windows 7 Operating system. In the U.S. They will be offering very good deals starting on 26th Microsoft will be offering windows 7 Home Premium for only $49 and Windows 7 Professional for only $99. This is fantastic for Microsoft especially if your used to the very high prices they normally have. Unfortunately though this only temporary and will last until July 11. However while this may seem fantastic it’s not quite as good as what apple is currently offering, Mac, OS X Snow Leopard will be offered for only $29 for all leopard owners when it launches in September.

That is only a temporary price for windows 7 though as it’s just for people willing to pre order. When it does launch though on October 22 the retail packages will cost, $119 for Home Premium, $199 for Professional, and $219 for ultimate. However for all you guys in Europe Microsoft will be shipping a special “E” version that has the internet explorer browser removed (I wish they did that for all countries!). Although because of that decision they now require you to do a complete wipe out and install. That doesn’t mean you need to pay the full version cost, Microsoft said it will still allow you to buy the full version for the upgrade price.

So If your looking for the new windows and wondering about the pricing there you have it. It’s very close to Vista so don’t expect things to be much cheaper. They will also begin to offer discounts for vista machines bought close to windows 7 launch.
