Sun Compiler And Tools Technology – Latest Upgrade Released
June 25, 2009 by Sanjay
Santa Clara, California-based Sun Microsystems Inc has announced the latest upgrade to its software compiler and tools technology. This upgrade is freely downloadable from the company’s website here: http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio.
Sun Studio 12 Update 1, the latest version, is a suite of software tools targeted towards the operating systems supported by the company, viz. Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris, besides leading Linux flavors. These OS run on SPARC, Intel x8 and AMD x86-based machines. The tools are essentially meant for C, C++ and Fortran programming languages, the dominant languages used in OS development.
New features in this upgrade include the capability to develop multi-threaded and distributed applications, a visual profiling tool called DLight, and libraries for high-performance computing, financial and other compute-intensive environments. Debugging has been made simpler, especially where multi-threaded code is involved. Developers can now isolate common thread issues and profile thread execution to identify performance problems, and also work on memory issues such as leaks, access errors and usage. A new GUI debugger, called dbxTool, has been included in the new upgrade. Support for the OpenMP 3.0 API specification has also been provided in the new upgrade.
