What palm needs for the perfect Pre
June 27, 2009 by Joel
The Palm pre has been out on the market for a few weeks now and Consumers are aware of the device and it’s capabilities but there’s still a lot missing from the device that is keeping it from It’s full potential. So I present you the list of things that the palm pre must do to unleash it’s full potential.
I’ll start with hardware things that the palm should have had. First off I’m sure you know that the pre has only 8GB of internal storage and not option to expand that via Micro sd card slot. This is quite a big problem while maybe not for all I’m sure that many people will not buy the device for this reason alone. Palm you either need to increase internal storage up to the iPhone standard or keep the 8GB and allow us to put in a Micro SD card.
The device looks very slick and it’s comfortable in the hand but there are somethings that would make it even better. First I’m sure you know by now the keyboard isn’t the greatest so palm either needs to make it larger or apply a different texture. Another thing is the screen, plastic screens aren’t very good they feel somewhat cheap and they can scratch easier than glass, and glass also gives you a sense of luxury.
For the software front the device excels with it’s outstanding operating system that redefines multitasking on mobile devices. Although there are improvements to be made as nothing is perfect. First of all I cannot believe they shipped the device without allowing for a full SDK, I mean they saw what happened when apple did the same thing a few years ago. It just doesn’t work especially if you now want to compete with the iPhone. These apps are what really make the devices so good. Palm let’s get out an SDK so the developers can do their thing I’m sure many developers are interested.
The last thing is get it out there. Currently only the U.S. Has the smartphone if I’ m not mistaken which is a bit ridiculous I mean common this is almost exactly the iPhone all over again. I know it’s only CDMA networks but it can’t be that much harder to make a GSM one. Hell even us Canadians don’t have it yet and we support CDMA.
