Microsoft Buys Software Assets From Teamprise
November 11, 2009 by Sanjay
Redmond, Washington-headquartered Microsoft Corporation has announced that it has acquired software assets from Teamprise, a division of SourceGear LLC.
The software assets in question pertain to a suite of client applications that developers can use to access Microsoft’s Visual Studio team Foundation Server from outside of the VS IDE. The suite comprises a plug-in for Eclipse IDE (which essentially gives developers a mechanism to perform source control, bug-tracking, build and report operations from within Eclipse and Eclipse-based IDEs such as Rational Application Developer, JBoss, BEA Workshop and Adobe Flex Builder), another software called “Explorer” which is an extension of the Eclipse IDE plug-in but which is in itself a standalone cross-platform GUI application; and a command-line client which is the usual CLI.
The cost of the acquisition has not been made public. According to the company press release, Teamprise technology will become available to VS 2010 customers. The technology can be purchased along with one Team Foundation Server CAL, and will be supported by SourceGear.
This strategic move is aimed at bringing greater seamlessness in interoperability between the Visual Studio development environment and the rest of the world.
