These display units are LCD monitors. Model LD220G is priced at USD 249.99 and has 1,920X1,080 resolution, while model LD190N is available for USD 149.99 and has 1,360X768 resolution. Also known as “Lapfit monitors”, these units are especially useful for small-screen users when they want to work on multiple screens simultaneously. The monitors provide 16:9 widescreen high definition format. In LD220G model, 1080p picture quality is available. There are inbuilt functions that allow settings such as brightness, backlight and color to be changed with ease.

While LD190N can be hooked to the notebook with a standard VGA cable, the LD220G can be also connected to the machine using USB. Samsung deploys its proprietary UbiSync technology that makes it possible to handle multiple monitors without having to install additional video cards or even to change system settings.

The display units weigh less than 10 pounds and come with an integrated kickstand that can be tilted from 10 to 40 degrees. The units have a thin profile that occupies minimal space on the desk, and which also makes them very portable.

A few months back dell announced they would be producing a new 19” touch screen all in one computer and while they did it was only released to China so up until now we have yet to really see what this thing is all about. The computer is as mentioned is an all in one (AIO) device that means it’s in a format similar to the Apple iMac. The computer can be configured without a touch screen, which is the stock configuration or with a touch, which I’m sure, will be very popular.

The computer boasts much of the same features as the other dell all in one computers. The computer is more than just a standard touch screen though. It’s based on Multitouch if you configure it so. Which means it’s just like the iPhone where you can use multiple fingers at once to manipulate things on screen. To take advantage of this dell has provided their own special “Plug in” for windows in order to make the OS more touch friendly.

I really wish dell put a larger screen on the computer though I mean 19” is pretty small these days and people generally want bigger. I also wish they made the computer have less of a bezel, from the images It looks pretty large. Despite all that I still think it’s fantastic because dell has managed to jam a Quad core Intel processor into a 19” and apple won’t even put one in a 24”. The graphics card isn’t great but at least it’s on a 19” instead of a 24” like apple does. The 9400M wasn’t’ designed for a big 24”.

Overall I think dell has done a fantastic job on the machine and it will do very well. But only if they can market it properly. The computer is available right now so I suggest you check it out on the dell website.

- LG Electronics, a leading provider of business solutions, today announces the launch of its HD widescreen LCD monitors, the W53 series, in the UK. To enhance the overall viewing experience, the series boasts automatic brightness control technology, which helps to reduce eyestrain during extended use.

LG’s Auto Brightness feature automatically optimises the picture settings and the brightness of the screen based on the light in the room and the content being viewed. By lowering the intensity of the backlight, this feature also reduces the W53’s power consumption, making it a more energy efficient option. To further avoid eyestrain, it also includes a timer that reminds users to take a break from their work at predetermined intervals.

“LG has conducted extensive research around monitor usage in Europe and found one of the main complaints people had was eyestrain, caused by the screen being either too bright or too dark,” says Soyeon Shin, marketing manager, LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “To address this, LG has incorporated the world’s first full suite of features that optimises the brightness of the screen in its new W53 series, ultimately reducing eyestrain.”

The W53 series’ Cinema Mode feature enables users to eliminate distractions often found when watching online videos, such as pop up adverts, by blacking out everything except for the video clip. In addition, a proximity sensor under the monitor’s bezel detects when a hand approaches the screen and activates lights to make buttons easy to find. When not in use, the lights disappear, giving the monitor a sleeker, cleaner look.

Screen sizes for the W53 series range from 18.5” to 27” and all monitors larger than 21.5” offer a 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio, ideal for watching HD movies and games. The monitors also boast a Digital Fine Contrast (DFC) ratio of up to 50,000:1 and a response time of as quick as 2ms.

The W53 series will be available in the UK from May 2009.

In line with its latest MacBook offerings, Apple launched a new-look wide-screen flat-panel monitor on October 14, 2008.

Christened “Cinema Display”, the latest offering is a 24″ active-matrix liquid crystal display and has several new features that distinguish it from the original, 22″ Cinema Display that Apple had unveiled back in September 1999.

The monitor supports standard resolutions of 1,920X1,200, 1,280X800 and 1,024X640 pixels. The viewing angles are 178 deg, in both horizontal and vertical directions. The brightness is typically 330 cd / meter-square, with a contrast ratio of typically 1,000:1.

The monitor has an integrated, “MagSafe” charger which laptop users can power their notebooks with. A mini DisplayPort allows MacBook users to connect to the monitor. A new feature in the 24-inch display is a built-in “iSight” camera with microphone, and a built-in 2.1 speaker system.

Apple claims that the new product goes easy on the environment in many ways. The LED backlights consume less power and contain no mercury. The glass on the panel is free of arsenic, and the entire panel is made of aluminum, available in both glossy and matte finish, and there are no PVC material or brominated-flame retardants in the product. Weighing 21 pounds (9.5 kg), the monitor is being priced at USD 899.

Well, the event has ended and so have the upgrades. Since there seems to be confusion on what exactly happened with the update, I thought I’d run through it all. Apple has Updated the Macbooks, which I mentioned in my previous post. What I didn’t mention is the Cinema Displays and the MacBook Air. Let’s jump in.

Apple has created a 24” LED version of there Cinema displays. This however does not replace anything, it seems to be in addition to. What’s changed you ask, Well it is now fully LED backlight which means it fires up right away and is brighter. Apple is advertising this as a consumer display. I know, The price doesn’t show it. So why is this display consumer friendly, It will now charge your MacBook, It includes a iSight built in camera as well as a speaker and mic. The display includes 3 USB ports, It does however drop the firewire of the previous displays. The downsides of the display is some professional photographers and graphics professionals are grumbling at the glossy display, This happened because people generally like glossy and apple wanted to help the environment. So they put a piece of glass that extends from corner to corner of the display. I really like the look and I’m glad there using better materials.

The MacBook Air received a silent update, Which granted it new 45nm processors with more cache. Intel is saying that the processors are using less power and delivering a little more performance. However I’m guessing the battery life won’t increase due to the graphics and chipset from Nvidia. Also the Air will now include the new 128GB SSD’s as well as new 120GB standard hard drives. It will come in two configurations which include a 1.6 GHz model and 1.8Ghz model that are going for 1799 and 2499 us (£1,299.00 and £1,799.00). The more expensive model also includes the SSD. The machines are shipping in November and are available for order now. If you would like more information checkout apple.com/macbookair/ and apple.com/displays/.

After reading quite a few reviews I decided upon the HANNS-G 28″ which offered good response rates coupled with excellent value for money at around £250 from most retailers.

Features

28″ (69,85 cm) Wide

3ms response time

Black Glossy Frame

1920 x 1200

2 x 2.5 Watt Speakers

VESA Standard, 200mm

800:1 contrast ratio

Swivel Base

Height Adjustable

I opted to go through Amazon.co.uk and in actual fact through a reseller, order placed with one click it was time to sit back and anxiously wait, according to Amazon order area my order was to be dispatched within 2 days, 3 days later I received an email to say my monitor was actually out of stock! It clearly stated when I ordered “In Stock”

If there is one thing that really bothers me it’s inept customer support, I immediately cancelled my order and sought out Misco.co.uk who offered the same monitor and also showed it as “In Stock”

The order was placed at 4pm and the HANNS-G 28 ” monitor was received the next day, that is customer service! Misco’s website gave clear information and kept me updated by email throughout the process, a big 5 stars and thumbs up!

My overall thoughts on the actual monitor?
Running it at 1920×1200 gives plenty of screen real estate and it’s an absolute joy to use for gaming and watching HD movies, yes the frame is a bit thick and the HANNS-G logo could be a bit smaller however the features/response rate to cost ratio makes this a winner for me, real value for money. The screen itself is very easy to turn and adjust on it’s stand.

Downside – no USB ports, this monitor has an HDMI input and a VGA and not a lot else.

The Dell UltraSharp 2408WPF packs all of its stellar performance inside a practical and aesthetically pleasing design while delivering an embarrassment of connection riches. It also carries a fair price of around £400; we’d wager any 24-inch display you find for less will come with trade-offs in terms of features or performance or both.

It also carries a fair price of around £400; we’d wager any 24-inch display you find for less will come with trade-offs in terms of features or performance or both.

Design
The Dell 2408WFP shares the same basic design as its predecessor, the UltraSharp 2407WFP. This includes the relatively thin bezel around the edge of the screen with the Dell logo along the bottom.

The onscreen display is easy to navigate and includes the usual options of brightness, contrast, colour and so on. We also liked that the OSD stays on the screen long enough to evaluate any changes you make while calibrating the display. There are also six included preset modes for activities such as playing games, watching movies and graphics work that affect colour temperature, contrast and brightness.

From the back, you’re looking at a mostly silver enclosure, which runs along the foot and neck of the stand with a large silver Dell logo at the top. The screen rotates 45 degrees to the left and right and about 30 degrees back. The screen also pivots 90 degrees to the left into portrait mode, but you’ll have to rotate the screen back first before you can actually pivot it as the stand is in the way normally. This is a minor gripe, but it’s something we hope Dell will consider when it chooses to redesign this chassis.

The foot of the stand is the same Y-shaped design as found on last year’s model. The width of the stand is about 497mm at its widest and really helps to make the display feel very sturdy, even when placed on a narrow stand and the screen is raised to the top of its range. This display has many connection options and Dell continues to make it easy to find them all. Each connection has a very clear illustration beneath it that makes it a cinch to find and connect.

Features
The Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP includes an abundance of connection options. For video connections, you’ll find a VGA, two DVI, an HDMI, a DisplayPort, component and composite ports. There’s also a speaker port, four USB ports (plus one upstream USB port) and a media card reader for Compact Flash and SD formats. That’s certainly a long list of connections, but if we’re being greedy, we would have liked to have seen an optical audio out connection.

The Dell has a dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000:1. According to Dell, this means that the blacks the display outputs are three times darker than the whites are when viewing dark scenes. To get that kind of contrast ratio, the display powers down its backlight in dark scenes, so that the blacks are very dark. This also means that if the dark scene in question contains areas of bright light, the light may be sacrificed as the backlight does not have the power to represent it accurately.

Basically, dynamic contrast is just a marketing term and for now, there is no independent standard for measuring it, so it should not be considered when making a buying decision. We felt the display was capable of dark blacks, but they could have been darker. The whites were as bright as any we’ve seen in a recent display.
