The bubbly is overflowing at the headquarters of Cupertino, California-headquartered Apple Inc, ever since the news came in that the company’s latest gizmo, the iPad, has hit the sales target of one million pieces.

This achievement came about in less than 28 days after the iPad was introduced to the world on April 3. This is less than the time it took the iPhone to reach the coveted figure, of 74 days. The craze to buy and own an Apple product appears to be unabated, with customers queuing up in front of Apple’s sales outlets much before the shutters go up.

And all this while, users of iPad have downloaded over 12 million apps from the App Store, besides browsing through 1.5 million ebooks they bought from the new iBookstore. iPad now has more than 5,000 apps developed especially around its architecture. The device, weighing 1.5 pounds and just about 0.5 inch thin, is not power hungry, and can run on its internal batteries for almost 10 hours. Couple this with the multi-touch interface which does away with the tap-tap of the keyboard, and you have a winner.

Let’s face it people, desktop replacements are in. And in case you had idea to the contrary, just trust me, take my cue, and pretend you knew it all along too. And so allow me to present… the Gateway FX P-7805u!

Ok, so there aren’t exactly any red carpets or flashing paparazzi for this one. But while the Gateway FX P-7805u isn’t the machine that’ll get you green-eyes looks from a mile off, it is exactly the kind of notebook you’re looking for if you have a good balance of price and performance in mind, especially for gaming. For just a mere $1299 (usually available for less at most Best Buy stores), you get the performance of a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 CPU, 4GB RAM (1066MHz DDR2) and an Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTS. The bad news? Its 17” screen gives you the resolution of a mere 1,440×900. A somewhat disappointing cost-cutting measure (but hey, at least it cut the cost), especially for avid gamers looking to get the maximum possible performance out of their computers, but this machine isn’t really for one of those. It’s intended to be able to run most available games, (though maybe not always at the highest graphics settings) and be an economical buy at the same time. After all, outrageous performance machines also must inevitably come with outrageous price tags.

The final verdict? A bit low on the visual delight end because of its comparatively lower resolution, but that isn’t really a deal-breaker. For a gamer with a budget, this machine is seriously worth considering.

An Alienware desktop replacement with an under $2000 price tag, yes it is not a joke!

Your prayers have finally been answered. Finally, there’s an Alienware for everyone.

The M17 is the more affordable (read: watered down) version of the outrageously-over-the-top M17x. It trades in the Nvidia graphics for ATI (including a multi-GPU CrossFireX option) and also includes optional Intel Quad Core 2 Extreme CPUs (the standard, however, being a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400). The price-cut reflects in the other components too. The M17 has just 3GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive. The latter does tend to disappoint (especially when you think of the 1TB that you could get with the M17x), but then again, aren’t we forgetting something? Like the $6000 bill that that same M17x will set you back with? In comparison, the M17 is priced from between $1400 to $2000. Mere peanuts in comparison!

In conclusion, it must be said that the M17 isn’t exactly the best that you could be getting. It’s not just about undue comparisons with its majorly-out-of-its-league cousin, even in terms of value for money it is outdone by the Gateway P-7811FX. But you might not care anyway. After all, the hypnotic lure of an otherworldly denizen with green eyes is too much to resist…

Sleek, stylish and sexy. These are the first things that come to mind when looking at Nokia’s latest offering, the N900 Smartphone-cum-Internet Tablet. The device that has had the net abuzz with excitement was formally announced on 27th August, and is all set to debut as the star of this year’s Nokia World in September.

The release details are enough to set any red-blooded techie drooling. The Nokia N900’s 3.5 inch WVGA touch-screen comes alive to the Linux based OS Maemo 5 (with full Adobe Flash 9.4 support), which has never till now been used in a smartphone. Add to that the N900’s sliding QWERTY keyboard, and it becomes obvious that you are looking at so much more than just another iPhone wannabe. The N900 is powered by the ARM Cortex-A8 processor (the same chipset as the iPhone 3G S), has 32GB of on-board storage expandable to 48GB via microSD, HSPA and WiFi, GPS/A-GPS, FM transmitter, TV-out, Bluetooth 2.1, up to 1GB of application memory, OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics acceleration, DivX/XviD video playback support, and a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual-LED flash. It also boasts of an easy multitasking ability, aiming to provide the user with a “PC-like experience on a handset-sized device.”

The N900 is due to hit the markets this October. Of course, the hefty 500 Euro price tag (before taxes and subsidies) may give reason for pause, but that is possibly the only con in a long, long list of pros. From the looks of it, this so-called ‘monster’ is all set to take down the Smartphone market in its rampage.

The recently unveiled MSI Wind Top AE2010 is a stunner in every sense of the word. As an improved follow-up to the almost-as-impressive Wind Top AE1900 model, the AE2010 is a net top (that’s what it officially is, although it still packs everything- and I mean everything- a desktop should have) is a dream machine wrapped nicely inside a package of a 20” glass-finished 1600×900 touch screen.

The AE2010 comes with an AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 1.5GHz processor, onboard ATI Radeon 3200 graphics card with discrete memory, 4GB of DDRII 533MHz SDRAM, a 320GB 7200RPM HDD, 6 USB ports, a 4-1 card reader, integrated webcam, mic, and SRS speakers… and a price tag of$650 (£400).

Power packed performance, killer aesthetics (I swear it looks better than an iMac) and an electrical efficiency that burns power as little as it does your pocket (the whole thing runs on 90W supply)- this machine is nothing short of an all-in-one desktop that satisfies just about every single expectation that you could possibly have from a computer, and…. Why are you still sitting here reading this when you could be ordering one right now?
