Palo Alto, California-headquartered Hewlett Packard Development Company L.P. has announced the introduction of a new series of workstations, christened xw9400.

There are four models in this series: FL836UT priced at USD 2,599; FL838UT priced at USD 2,800; FL839UT priced at USD 4,299; and FL840UT priced at USD 4,799.

The new series incorporates AMD’s Opteron processors, ranging from a single quad-core 2376 Opteron CPU to two quad-core Opteron 2376’s. All the workstations have 4GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM, except the FL840UT, which sports an 8GB RAM. The basic models come with hard disk drives with capacities ranging from 250GB to 500GB.

The four models target different segments of the market. While the lower-end FL836UT is for the price-conscious, the FL838UT is for those who want a high-capacity storage (500GB) but who are not really interested in graphics. The FL839UT and FL840UT are attractive to those with heavy graphics requirements – the machines come with NVIDIA Quadro FX3700 (512 MB) graphics card.

The workstations come with the standard 16X DVD+/-RW SuperMulti SATA optical drive, and are preloaded with Microsoft’s Vista Business Version.
