Sunnyvale, California-headquartered Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Inc has announced the launch of a new desktop graphics card. Called the ATI Radeon HD 4770, this card incorporates the latest 40nm technology.

The latest addition has hardware circuitry that can handle such graphic-intensive games as Battleforge, HAWX, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and the like. The card leverages the superior technology of GDDR5 memory, which translates to higher data rates than was possible, according to the company release.

The card also has the standard features of HDMI, PiP and 7.1 surround sound which are required for cinema-quality home-entertainment.

PrintIf they have ATI CrossFireX-ready motherboard, then gamers can add this card as an add-on and make use of the CrossFireX technology to further enhance their gaming performance.

PC Assemblers can, according to the release, couple AMD’s Athlon X2 7850 processor and 7-series chipsets with the latest HD 4770 graphics card to create a desktop PC that will appeal to the lay user in general and to the gaming community and home-entertainment specifically.

Companies such as Emergent have already endorsed the new card by upgrading their gaming software to include features of the card when the software detects its presence.

AMDs 4800 GPU series

AMD's 4800 GPU series

In its series of high-performance, tera-flops GPU cards, AMD on Thursday (October 23) launched the ATI Radeon HD 4830 graphics card which is priced in the range of USD 100-150. The new product is targeted at performance guzzling gamers who are also price-conscious.

Games such as “Call of Duty 4″ (1,920X1,200, 4xAA+AF), “Devil May Cry 4″ (1,920X1,200 4xAA+AF), “ET: Quake Wars” (1,920X1,200 4xAA+AF), “Crysis” (DX10, 1,920X1,200 2xAA+AF), “Half-Life 2: Episode 2″ (1,920X1,200 8xAA+AF), besides others can be played with better frame rates (> 30 fps) in comparison to competitors such as Nvidia GeForce 9800GT. Gamers can even further enhance their experience by installing an ATI CrossFireX Ready motherboard in their machine, and plugging in up to four HD 4830 cards in its slots.

Besides the brute frame rate, this GPU has great HD multimedia capabilities. The GPU, in tandem with AMD’s Unified Video Decoder (UVD) and ATI Avivo HD technology, gives smooth HD video playback (for both Blu-ray and HD DVD video), crisp images and vibrant colors. Cinema-quality experience now becomes affordable with a sub-$150 product which packs in high-end features of PiP and 7.1 surround sound.

The 4830 sits well with other GPUs in its series, such as the HD 4850 available for USD 199 and the HD 4870 available for USD 299.
