April 18, 2010 by Sanjay · Leave a Comment

Cupertino, California-headquartered Apple Inc has released the next version of the Operating System for its celebrated iPhone device. iPhone OS 4 beta version is now available to the community of iPhone software app developers.

The beta release includes a software development kit (SDK) that comprises 1,500 new application programming interface (API) modules. A key feature of the new OS version that is attractive to the developer community is its multitasking capability: there are 7 new multitasking services to choose from for incorporating in the developer apps. These services have been designed such that the device’s battery life is preserved and the foreground app performance does not deteriorate.

At the user level, the new OS offers over 100 new features. One nifty feature is called “Folders”, which helps the phone’s owner to organize and access over 2,000 apps on their iPhone in logical folders. There is a new Unified Inbox, which allows users to see messages from all their email accounts displayed together in a single inbox. Users can now thread their messages by conversation and make it easier to stay current with the latest email discussions.

Edit Photos On iPhone Using Photoshop From Adobe

October 21, 2009 by Sanjay · Leave a Comment

San Jose, California-headquartered Adobe Systems Inc has introduced a new version of its software product Photoshop for the iPhone mobile.

iPhone users can now edit the images captured or downloaded by them on their mobiles, using Photoshop.com. The application can be downloaded free of cost from Apple’s App Store, and is called “Photoshop.com Mobile for iPhone”.

The application allows iPhone users to edit their images using gesture-based editing. Essential functionalities such as cropping, rotating, flipping are seamlessly available in the software. Additionally, there are special effects possible such as transforming photos such that they look like drawings using the Sketch tool, giving a soft blur to the photos to impart them an artistic look. The color across the image can be adjusted to “saturate” or “tint” mode, besides converting images to black-and-white and back again. What’s more, users can always undo their experimentation, so that the original photo can be brought back.

Adobe offers its users a free account on Photoshop.com. iPhone customers can open an account on the website and use it to upload and store their images and build a library worth up to 2GB, which is roughly equivalent to 1,500 photos.

Flash Comes To iPhone

October 7, 2009 by Sanjay · Leave a Comment

San Jose, California-headquartered Adobe Systems Inc has announced the availability of Flash platform for Apple’s iPhone. Developers can now use the Flash platform to build standalone applications for the iPhone.

The company plans to launch into the public domain the beta version of Flash Professional CS5, along with requisite support to build apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch, by the end of 2009, according to the company release. These apps have to be compliant with iPhone OS 3.0 and higher. ActionScript 3 (and not any version less) is supported.

The version does not yet allow iPhone users to browse web-based content that has been built using Flash technology. This is because the corresponding Flash Player which can be plugged into the browser is still some distance away. The Flash Player API set available when creating content for the iPhone has been built using the core Flash runtime used in Flash Player 10 and Adobe AIR 2.0.

Standalone applications that have already been developed using Flash CS5 and available for download from Apple’s online store include games (Roach Game, Just Letters, Red Hood, etc).

Fort Lauderdale, Florida-headquartered Citrix Systems Inc has launched a new software tool that connects users to access, from their iPhone, all documents and applications that their company / corporate entity has stored on Citrix’s XenApp infrastructure.

The new tool is called “Citrix Receiver”, and is a lightweight software client that loads and runs on devices such as PCs, Macs and smartphones. This tool works as a self-service user entry point to the XenApp. XenApp is a software suite that manages applications and databases installed by clients in the datacenter. The suite works on Windows platform, which means that the Citrix Receiver is 100% compatible to Windows products.

The tool enables mobile professionals to perform such routine activities as opening documents, updating reports, approving expenses, or even participating in a webinar, all from the iPhone they hold in their hands. The technology allows only keyboard input, screen gestures and screen updates to traverse the network. Data, such as e-mail and intellectual property, never gets sent to or stored on the iPhone.

Skype Becomes Most Popular iPhone Download

April 3, 2009 by Sanjay · Leave a Comment

Are you an iPhone user? Then chances are that you already are aware of the new kid on the iPhone’s App Store block, and chances also are that you have already downloaded it on your device. The app comes free, too. We are talking about the Skype app that was launched on App Store on April 1st, 2009.

As with the regular Skype, Skype on iPhone allows users to make free Skype-to-Skype calls from any WiFi zone. Additionally, the Skype ecosystem allows people to see who amongst the contacts is online and then send-and-receive instant messages on the move. iPhone’s Skype users can also connect to landlines and other mobiles using Skype’s ratecard.

A Skype call cannot be made over 3G or EDGE, yet. Besides the iPhone, Skype is also available on all second generation machines of the iPod Touch.

Within two days of its launch, the app has proved to be the most popular on Apple’s App Store, by virtue of it being downloaded more than one million times in 48 hours, which amounts to roughly six downloads per second around the world.
